On this site originally was a World War II marine bunker which eventually
became the British Inn. After it burned down, the Inn was rebuilt
and renamed The Britannia.
In the mid 1990s it reopened after a period of some years without
trading, and was fully refurbished, with the conservatory restaurant
being the most obvious improvement.
Nowadays The Britannia is a popular, busy and integral part of the
daily life of Dungeness residents. Specialising in fresh food, particularly
fish and chips, The Britannia has an extensive menu as well as a whole
host of home-cooked specials - you never know what delightful extra
dishes may be on offer each time you visit!
Dungeness is also a very popular destination for film crews and fashion
shoots. For example, in January 2001, popular UK boy band A1 shot
their Same Old Brand New You single right next to The Britannia. In
1990 Derek Jarman (who used to live on Dungeness) filmed the movie
The Garden in the local vicinity, while in December 2002 upcoming
Pop Star Andrea Britton filmed her single Am I on your mind on the
beach in front of The Britannia.
We were also the launch site of the new BMW Mini in 2001 when a dozen
new Minis straight from the factory were driven down to be shown off
to the waiting Press. We have also been the location of numerous fashion
shoots for top magazines and newspapers.
Most of these times we were called on to provide catering for the
crews and accomodation for makeup and the Stars of these productions.
